Hesteyri: Prime Hiking Destination

Starting from: Ísafjörður
Season: June-August
Duration: 9-12 hours
Difficulty: 3/5
Minimum age: 8 years old
Min: 4 pax

The hiking route between Aðalvík and Hesteyri is one of Iceland's most scenic. Pass through raw & rugged landscapes and admire the remaining signs of past settlement.

Important: Please read the instructions under the "Preparation" tab to ensure that you are properly equipped for the tour.

On this hike the guide leads you through the singular history of the area and the unspoiled nature; untouched by cars, electricity or domestic animals. The boat leaves Ísafjörður in the morning for the abandoned village of Hesteyri. Continuing on foot between the creeks and bays to another abandoned settlement at Látrar, we pass the ruins of the old farm Neðri-Miðvík and, crossing the mountain, enjoy a spectacular and panoramic view across Aðalvík bay and Straumnes mountain. Returning by boat from Látrar in Aðalvík bay in the evening.

This is a hike for people in good shape. Hiking distance is about 12 km on rough ground and elevation of about 300 meters.

For safety reasons we reserve the right to deny boarding to insufficiently prepared participants.
