Below is a 7 day / 6 night itinerary to give you a general idea of our Hiking the Westfjords trip starting from Isafjordur:

Day 1 - Isafjordur Bay & Kaldalon

Drive through the winding fjords of the serene Isafjordur bay stopping to take a short hike through a gorge, look for seals along the coast and enjoy the best waffles in Iceland.

In the afternoon, you will take the lesser-visited road to Iceland's northernmost glacier, Drangajokull.

Day 2 - Remote Arneshreppur

Strandir is one of Iceland's most remote regions. Follow the coastline up north past abandoned villages and driftwood beaches stopping to hike on trails where you will be just by yourself.

Day 3 - The Breidafjordur Bay

Drive along the Breidafjordur Bay to the Southern Westfjords stopping to take some offbeat hikes, relax in some natural hot springs and enjoy views of the countless islands.

Day 4 - Latrabjarg & the beaches

Spend the day hiking the dramatic Latrabjarg cliffs and exploring the many colourful beaches including the orange-hued Raudasandur

Day 5 - Dynjandi & The Westfjords

Drive through some of Iceland's prettiest fjords - Arnarfjordur, Dyrafjordur and Onundarfjordur; enjoy spectacular mountain views and visit the majestic Dynjandi waterfall on your way to Isafjordur.

It is possible to take a guided hike up to the highest peak of the Westfjords, Kaldbakur.

Day 6 - The Hornstrandir Nature Reserve

Take a day trip to the uninhabited Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, a bucket list place for many hikers.

There are trips every day but if you would like a specific hike, we would need to rearrange your itinerary to work around that.

Day 7 - Isafjordur Mountain Hiking

Spend the day in Isafjordur and enjoy a half day hike in the surrounding mountains for spectacular views over the capital of the Westfjords.

The locations specified above are indicative. Since the exact itinerary is customised for your arrival and departure times, trails you choose, and the pace of your trip; these might change.
We can of course also accommodate any preferences you have.

Here are some of the ways in which we can customise this trip:
- Add extra days to slow down the pace or enrich your itinerary with more time for activities or de-tours; there is enough to do for 2 weeks
- Cut a day or two from the itinerary to allow for reduced time or budget

For self-drive, the car rental is as per your preference and the season; in the off-season, we only provide a 4X4.
For private tours, we offer a variety of comfortable vehicles for different group sizes with a local guide.

We can also include tours and activities of your choice, self-guided walks and hikes, and restaurant recommendations. Typically this requires adding extra time to the trip.

Additional information for your Iceland trip will be sent to you after the booking. This will include details about weather and clothing, currencies and payments, electricity system, food and water, safety, contact info, and other useful tips.

The minimum driver age for is 20 years for smaller cars and 25 years for jeeps. Drivers must bring an international driving licence or a local driving licence written in a Roman script. Winter driving experience is strongly recommended for off-season travel.
