Holmavik

The journey to Holmavik will take you down the lesser-visited Hunafloi bay, named after the occasional polar bear that drifts here from Greenland.
The bay separates the Skagi peninsula in North West Iceland from Strandir in the Westfjords.
The coastline is dotted with sparsely populated fishing villages and the waters are rich in marine life, especially seals and whales.

Holmavik is the largest town in Strandir, a region known for its dark history of witchcraft, and untouched natural beauty.
Very few travellers follow the lesser-travelled gravel road along the Strandir coast to visit the desolate driftwood beaches and abandoned fishing villages where less than 50 people live today.

The Steingrimsfjordur fjord offers some of the best opportunities for whale watching and the Grimsey Island is fantastic for puffins.
