Hornvik day hike
A bucket list tour to the Hornbjarg bird cliffs in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve!
• A moderate half-day hike from Seljalandsdalur to Hnifsdalur with stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape.
• Mountain lakes, crystal clear streams, carpets of fluorescent moss and colourful wildflowers
• Opportunities to see birdlife of the area including the elusive Golden Plover
Difficulty level: Moderate
Total Distance: 8 kms / 300m elevation
The journey begins at our Service Center (white container) where you meet your guide half an hour before departure and make final preparations. We then make the 5 minute drive up to the ski area in Seljalandsdalur where we begin the hike.
After roughly an hour, we get to the base of the mountain with Pjofatindar peaks looming above. We zig-zag up to the pass between the peaks for a spectacular view over the surrounding mountains and fjords.
After breaking for refreshments, we’ll continue down into the valley on the other side of the pass where the quaint town of Hnifsdalur sits along the shore. The car will be waiting to take us back to Isafjordur.
Please note that there is one steep section which we descend on the side of the pass. It is very short and our guides will be there to help every step of the way!
